Launch of the project Circular Economy based Biochar Activation in Romania – CEBAR

 

Explocom GK Srl launches a new Green Innovation investment project “Circular Economy based Biochar Activation in Romania – CEBAR” by co-financing from EEA and Norwegian Financial Mechanism for 2014-2021, by fund operator Innovation Norway in the SME Development Program in Romania, under the Green Innovation in Industry sector.

Starting with May 2021, our company based in Lupeni, Harghita County, CUI RO3495818 launches an major investment project for the production of biochar and additional bio-based products from wood waste from various sources. The investment project is co-financed by the EEA and Norway Financial Mechanisms, 2014-2021, within the SME Development Program in Romania, specific area Green Innovation in Industry.

The value of the project is EUR 2,723,392 excluding VAT, of which the amount of the grant is EUR 1,771,000.

Within the project, the company’s production capacity will be significantly increased through innovative, greener and more environmentally friendly technologies. By implementing the project, the company will be able to produce 6000 t / Biochar, by valorization different wood waste from the regional wood industry. In addition, various bio-innovative secondary products e.g. bio-chemicals will be produced.

The results of the project will also mean newly created jobs for the region, with several environmental benefits such as reducing air and greenhouse gas pollution by 4,624 t / year CO2 eq. Explocom GK is one of the most well-known producers of charcoal and biochar in Romania, and at the moment will realize the biggest investment project in his history. This investment means a unique green innovation that will support the transition from the fossil-based economy to the Circular BioEconomy based on organic and renewable materials. Therefore, through the current investment, the company will become an example of good practice not only for Romania, but it is also unique in the South-Eastern region of Europe.

The project is co-financed by Innovation Norway within the SME Development in Romania Program, Green Innovation Area in Industry.
